Settling in
Arriving is the good part. The fortnight after it is the work
A new country asks for a surprising amount of admin in its first two weeks,
and almost all of it has an order. The bank wants a letter from the
university. The university wants an address. The surgery wants proof you
live at it. Done in the wrong order, a fortnight becomes a month.
So we hand you the order. Every task below has a week against it, the one
document it needs, and somebody here who has done it several hundred times.

What we handle
Five things we take off your hands
Preparing to study abroad is five separate pieces of work that all fall due at
once, in a country whose rules you have not lived under yet. Each one below is
handled here, start to finish, and none of them waits for the others.
Student visa support
The visa is the one part of this with no appeal and no second attempt at
the deadline. We read the financial requirement against your own
statements, check every document against the guidance in force this month
rather than last year's, and file early enough that a request for more
evidence is an inconvenience instead of a lost term.
Safe student housing
Halls or a private flat, the questions are the same three. Is it walking
distance from the department, is the contract fair, and does the tenancy
start on the day you land. We view it, we read the agreement, and we say
plainly when a deposit is not worth paying.
Airport transfers and travel
Somebody meets you at arrivals with your name on a card and takes you to
the room. After that comes the part nobody explains: the railcard that
pays for itself in three journeys, the bus app, the student discount, and
which line actually gets you to campus by nine.
University enrolment
Registration, the student card, module choices and the CAS paperwork,
settled with the admissions office directly rather than through your
inbox at midnight. Level 4 through to Level 8, the same week either way.
English language preparation
Almost every offer carries an English condition. We prepare for the exact
paper yours names and line up the university's own pre-sessional course
at the same time, so a single result never decides the year.
Nothing on this list is hard on its own. It is the sequence that catches people
out, because half of it cannot start until the half before it has finished.
Six weeks out
Visa and money
CAS issued, the financial evidence held for the full 28 days, the application
filed. Book the appointment the day the slot opens, not the week it closes.
Two weeks out
A room and a flight
The tenancy signed with a start date before term, the flight booked around it,
and the transfer arranged from the terminal to the door.
The week you land
Register and collect
Enrolment at the university, the student card, and the biometric residence
permit collected. This is the letter everything else asks for, so it comes first.
Week one
Bank, doctor, travel
A current account opened on the university letter, the local surgery
registered with, and the student railcard bought before the first weekend away.
End of month one
The place stops being new
Council tax exemption filed, the phone contract moved off roaming, and a
society or two joined, which is the part that decides how the year feels.
Before you fly
None of this is the part you came for
Nobody moves to another country for the admin. But the admin is what decides
whether the first month is spent settling in or spent queuing, and it is the
one part of this we can simply take away. You do the course. We do the rest.
