Cambridge
Writing and English Literature is offered widely in the UK, so the useful comparison is between departments rather than between countries. It is a three year undergraduate degree, with the specialism widening as you move through the years.
Teaching in Creative Writing lets you specialise in a period, an author or a region in the later stages.
The lowest English requirement we hold on this course is IELTS 6.0, and departments asking more than that usually expect a stronger academic record too. Tuition is £17,500 a year.
Applications open around a year ahead of the intake. Getting the documents together early is what keeps the September date realistic.
Very few graduates support themselves by writing books, and the degree is more usefully seen as a craft apprenticeship with a network. Copywriting, editorial and content work are where the reliable income is.
No register. A finished manuscript, published pieces and an agent are what advance the writing half.
