Overview

Sociology/Business and Management is offered widely in the UK, so the useful comparison is between departments rather than between countries. It is a three year undergraduate degree, with the specialism widening as you move through the years.

Teaching in Business Studies is assessed through coursework and group work more than examinations, and most departments run a consultancy or company project in the final stage.

Tuition ranges from £27,720 to £33,210 a year depending on the department, which is a real difference over the length of the course.

Applications open around a year ahead of the intake. Getting the documents together early is what keeps the September date realistic.

Entry requirements

Careers opportunities

This is the widest graduate market in the country and also the most competitive, which means the degree opens the door and the internship decides who walks through it. Structured graduate schemes recruit a year ahead, so applications start early in the final stage.

Roles graduates go into

  • Graduate management trainee
  • Business analyst
  • Project coordinator
  • Marketing or operations executive
  • Consultant
  • Account or client manager

Where they work

After the course

No licence is required. Professional membership of the CMI, or a specialist qualification in accountancy, marketing or human resources, is what most employers fund in the first two years.
