Overview

Games Computing is offered widely in the UK, so the useful comparison is between departments rather than between countries. It is a three year undergraduate degree, with the specialism widening as you move through the years.

Teaching in Computer Games and Animation lets you specialise partway through, usually between security, data and software engineering. We currently work with 2 universities on this course across 2 cities.

The lowest English requirement we hold on this course is IELTS 6.0, and departments asking more than that usually expect a stronger academic record too. Tuition ranges from £19,850 to £21,500 a year depending on the department, which is a real difference over the length of the course.

Send us your transcript and English result and we will list the departments that would consider you, with the entry condition on each.

Careers opportunities

Employers in this field test what you can build, not what you were taught, and a technical interview is standard. A portfolio of projects, open source contributions or an industrial placement carries more weight than the grade in almost every hiring process.

Roles graduates go into

  • Software engineer
  • Data analyst
  • Data scientist
  • Systems or platform engineer
  • Security analyst
  • Technical consultant

Where they work

  • Technology and software companies
  • Banks and insurers
  • Consultancies and systems integrators
  • Government and health service digital teams
  • Startups and scale-ups
After the course

There is no register. Vendor certifications in cloud, security or data platforms are what most employers pay for in the first year, and they carry real weight in this market.
