Earth and Climate Science is taught at a number of UK universities, and the entry terms are set department by department rather than nationally. It is a three year undergraduate degree, with the specialism widening as you move through the years.
Teaching in Earth Sciences is offered as a three year BSc or a four year integrated masters, and the longer route is the usual step towards research.
Tuition ranges from £26,950 to £32,950 a year depending on the department, which is a real difference over the length of the course.
Applications open around a year ahead of the intake. Getting the documents together early is what keeps the September date realistic.
Laboratory research is only one of the routes out of a science degree and it is the one with the fewest posts. The larger destinations are industry, analysis, regulation and teaching, and a placement year is the single strongest thing on a science graduate's application.
A research post normally needs a doctorate, and a master's with a substantial project is the usual route into one. Chartered scientist status is the alternative for those staying in industry.
