Creative Direction with Foundation Year is taught at a number of UK universities, and the entry terms are set department by department rather than nationally. It is a three year undergraduate degree, with the specialism widening as you move through the years.
Teaching in Creative Arts and Design is studio based, and almost every department asks for a portfolio before it will make an offer.
Applications open around a year ahead of the intake. Getting the documents together early is what keeps the September date realistic.
Hiring in this field is decided on a portfolio rather than on a transcript, and the degree's job is to build one. A large share of graduates work freelance or on contract for the first few years, often alongside a studio job.
There is no register to join. What replaces it is a body of work, and most graduates spend the first two years building it in paid assisting roles.
