Content, Media and Film Production is taught at a number of UK universities, and the entry terms are set department by department rather than nationally. It is a three year undergraduate degree, with the specialism widening as you move through the years.
Teaching in Media Studies builds a portfolio across the course, and many departments include an industry placement.
Applications open around a year ahead of the intake. Getting the documents together early is what keeps the September date realistic.
Entry into this sector is decided on work you can show and people you have worked with, and the first year is very often freelance, contract or an assisting role. Courses with a placement, a working newsroom or a studio attached are worth considerably more than ones without.
For journalists, NCTJ accreditation is what most newsrooms in the United Kingdom still ask for, and some courses build it in.
