Overview

Agriculture (with integrated year in industry) is taught at a number of UK universities, and the entry terms are set department by department rather than nationally. It is a one year foundation course, the year before an undergraduate degree begins.

Teaching in Agriculture includes survey and data skills that carry directly into consultancy work.

If you are comparing this against two or three other courses, send us all of them. We will set the entry terms and the fees side by side.

Careers opportunities

Practical experience decides hiring in this sector more than the classification does, and most courses are built round a placement year for that reason. The work has moved sharply toward data, soil and emissions reporting in the last decade.

Roles graduates go into

  • Agronomist
  • Farm manager
  • Crop or livestock technical adviser
  • Agricultural researcher
  • Precision farming specialist
  • Rural business adviser

  • Research institutes such as Rothamsted and NIAB
  • Supermarket agriculture teams
  • Defra and the levy boards
After the course

BASIS and FACTS certification is what an agronomist needs to advise on crop inputs, and employers usually fund it in the first year.
